School-Wide Activities

The goal of the Taylor Elementary School, Counseling Program is to ensure that every student achieves academic success, social-emotional growth, and develops the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills to set and achieve meaningful goals. To support this, the counseling department offers school-wide activities and classroom lessons that focus on academic, social-emotional, and college and career development for all students.

Classroom Counseling Lessons

As Professional School Counselors, we provide Tier 1 classroom lessons to all students in all grade levels. The topics for the lessons fall within the three ASCA domains: Academic, Social-Emotional, and College & Career.

School Counselors provide short-term (6-8 week) group sessions to students in need of or interested in additional support. For example, topics for these groups may include but are not limited to: friendship, sportsmanship, self-confidence, self-advocacy, conflict resolution, academic success, or emotion regulation.

Individual Counseling

Based on student need, 1:1 sessions are provided to students in order to address concerns related to academic, social-emotional development, or other individualized support. School Counselors are not licensed therapists and do not provide long term therapy/counseling. The School Counselor can make referrals for outside services, including therapy/counseling.

Confidentiality Statement

School Counselors have a primary obligation to ensure confidentiality with their client, the student. Any student working with the School Counselor has the right to privacy and the promise of confidentiality. In order to ensure meaningful and honest dialogue within the counseling relationship, the student must be able to have trust and confidence in their counselor. At the beginning of the school year, and prior to each session, all students and families are made aware of the confidentiality statement and exceptions. Exceptions to confidentiality exist in which the counselor must inform others of this information in order to prevent  "serious or foreseeable harm" to the student, others, or if "legally required".
